"The Unspoken Hue"

Updated: Apr 17

A young boy with a bright smile, seated for a portrait. He wears a long-sleeved rugby shirt with a white collar and a prominent number 5. His khaki pants are neatly pressed, and his hands are gently folded in his lap. The backdrop is a classic, soft-focus mottled brown, enhancing the warmth of the image.
Through these young, hopeful eyes, the world was a canvas of dreams—unaware yet of the storms ahead, my smile remained undimmed.

In the beginning, there was a formula,

Mom plus Dad equaled a vivid dream,

A baby was born sparking the vision of family the two sought to redeem,

Through the noises that cried out and the presence of a precious gaze

These parents saw their baby boy so tender, so young

Displaying visions of something that had become one

Dyed the color of brown

This baby’s eyes had

So they knew that he was their child,

A baby boy born with brown eyes

His life would unfold, at the tender age of one,

As a silent storm stopped, a separation begun,

His parents would no longer be one

Yet, the boy still saw them, two worlds apart,

His kaleidoscope of emotions revealed a fragmented heart.

In one world, with his father, he appeared so near,

This was such a different dimension,

And how he cared for the boy was remarkably clear,

Yet the truth was that this was a court-ordered connection, a scheduled tie,

But the boy couldn't tell the difference because of the love he could feel inside

An invisible magnetic force pulling them close,

Father and son, a bond deeply engrossed,

Through the lens of brown eyes, a legacy to bear,

A relational bloodline, he thought his dad would always be there.

But one day, his world shattered in brown hues,

His father disappeared, leaving him

So lost, so confused…

The boy with  brown eyes, now on his own,

Now embarking fatherless journey, which is a path unknown.

A memory etched in the color of his gaze,

The pain revealed through a youthful haze,

Why did he leave? He couldn't understand,

Left alone, abandoned, with those little brown eyes.
